About the poppy
Remembrance Day, taking place every year on November 11th, honours the military personnel who lost their lives or served in the line of duty.
The poem In Flounder's Field, written by Canadian Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae during World War I, is where the poppy's symbolic meaning originates from. McCrae's poem that captures the tragedy and loss from war was inspired by a burial he saw of a fellow soldier and friend of his. The poppy evolved into a symbol of remembering those who served. The Royal Canadian Legion runs the national poppy campaign each year. To support veterans directly, visit legion.ca.
